Divine Humor: The Sacred Smile of Awakening

Divine Humor: The Sacred Smile of Awakening

What if the highest level of spiritual and human growth isn’t solemn stillness, or perfect posture, or even a mind emptied of thought… but a deep, resonant laughter from the belly of the soul?

A laughter that doesn’t mock—but remembers.
A laughter that doesn’t escape—but integrates.
A laughter that dances between the sacred and the ridiculous, knowing both are mirrors of the same Mystery.

The Joke We Came to Remember

Somewhere along the path of awakening, many of us fall into the trap of taking spirituality too seriously. We meditate, we process, we purge, we shadow-work ourselves into exhaustion—chasing enlightenment as if it were a merit badge to earn.

But then, something unexpected happens.
We trip on our own wisdom, fumble a “divine download,” or watch our expectations unravel—again.

And suddenly… there it is:
That inner chuckle. That cosmic wink. That sacred “you’ve got to be kidding me.”

Divine humor is the moment we realize we are not here to be perfect.
We are here to be whole—and that includes the fool, the child, the wanderer, and the wise one.

The Lightness of the Childlike Heart

True transformation often arrives not through effort, but through ease.
And nothing embodies that more than the childlike heart—curious, playful, and free.

In Egyptian mythology, the heart was the seat of consciousness and spirit. Upon death, it was weighed against the feather of Ma’at—the goddess of truth, harmony, and divine order.

If the heart was light—unburdened by guilt, deceit, or excessive seriousness—it passed freely into eternal life.

This ancient myth reveals an eternal truth: It is not how much we know, but how lightly we hold what we know, that brings us home.

Divine humor keeps the heart light. It teaches us to take life seriously, but not ourselves. It restores innocence without ignorance. Wisdom without weight.

My Gift Was Hidden in the Dark

One of my strongest gifts has never been what I thought it would be.
It’s not something I found in the light—but something I rediscovered in the darkness.

You see, I’ve always had the ability to smile at the unknown.
To look into the shadow, into the mystery, into the pain—and laugh.

Not to avoid it.
Not to minimize it.
But to alchemize it.

Through all three directions—past, present, and what’s yet to be—
I grasped toward some “higher” sense of being, of believing.
But each time I reached up, Life rerouted me back into the dark—not to punish, but to polish.
To remind me that my true gift was not in escaping pain… but in transforming it.

And my medicine?
It was my laugh.

The kind that bubbles up from the soul.
The kind that welcomes tears.
The kind that invites others to release their masks and be seen—fully, freely.

So today, I invite you to laugh with me.
To sit in circle with me.
To experience the full spectrum of life with me—so we may remember what we are truly meant to be:
A community.
A humanity.
A harmonious planet for all living beings.

The Medicine of Divine Humor

Divine humor dissolves shame, softens trauma, and helps the heart re-open—not through denial, but through integration.

It’s the moment the soul says, “Yes, that happened… and I’m still here, wiser and freer.”

  • We try to control the uncontrollable.
  • We create meaning, then let it go.
  • We chase enlightenment, only to find it in the mundane.
  • We forget we are divine… only to discover divinity in the forgetting.

The truth is simple.
The ego complicates.
And the soul just smiles.

Poetic Reflection

Divine Humor
The highest level
of spiritual and human growth—
if not divine humor?

The laughter that arises
when the self no longer
takes the self too seriously.

The smile that embraces
the opposites,
that dances with the mystery.

The grin that knows
even the pain
has punchlines hidden in grace.

Finding play
within the process
of becoming.
