The Path of Embodying A Pure Heart
What It Looks and Feels Like to Have a Pure Heart
By Chris “Yellow Owl” Albaugh
There’s a profound difference between doing good and being good. This isn’t about morality or societal standards, but about how we embody love, truth, and presence in every moment. Many aspire to purify the world around them, yet true purity begins within—in the heart that chooses peace over performance, compassion over control.
Having a pure heart isn’t about being flawless. It’s about choosing softness without surrendering strength, remaining open when it’s easier to shut down, and allowing raw, real, unfiltered truth to move through you.
A Path of Sacred Responsibility
My journey has been marked by many sacred experiences, but few are as profound as the ongoing four-year commitment I share with Mamo Lorenzo, a Kogi elder and spiritual guide from the Sierra Nevada of Colombia. This isn’t a transactional or ceremonial relationship; it’s a living agreement of purpose, deeply rooted in the Earth, in reciprocity, and in the purity of the heart.
Each year, I host Mamo Lorenzo on my land as we continue the sacred work of the Sentata—a spiritual mission guided by the Kogi to maintain the Earth’s balance. These aren’t casual visits; they are ceremonial activations, deep prayers, and living transmissions. They rigorously test the energetic container of everyone involved, especially the one holding the space.
The Dream That Changed Everything
After the first year of hosting Mamo, I had a vivid dream. In it, he and other Mamos visited me—not in an abstract form, but clearly and consciously. Through a series of energetic and symbolic initiations, they were testing my heart.
It didn’t feel like a dream at all. It felt like an alternate, timeless, and purposeful reality.
When I awoke, I was filled with awe and a sense of the unknown. Was it real? What did it mean? Had I passed or failed? Something deep within me stirred, but clarity would take time.
A Conversation Between Worlds
This year, during our consultation, I finally brought it up. I asked Mamo about the dream. What unfolded next shook me into a deeper remembrance.
He recalled the dream with the same vividness I did, as if we had lived it together intentionally—not just in spirit, but in conscious energetic agreement. To him, there was no separation between the dream and waking life; it was a real initiation.
Then I asked the question my heart had held since that night: “How did I do?”
But Mamo didn’t offer a grade or judgment. Instead, he offered something far more sacred: a gauge. A guide. A way to track and attune myself to the frequency of a pure heart.
A Gauge for the Heart
He reminded me that purity isn’t about perfection; it’s about alignment. When our thoughts, emotions, and actions flow from the same current of love, we are in harmony. When they don’t, the body speaks, the breath tightens, and the soul calls us back.
The gauge wasn’t a set of rules. It was a way of being—a reminder to:
- Observe the quality of my thoughts in relation to my current emotional state.
- Feel into the tightness or openness in my body as an honest reflection of my inner world.
- Witness whether my actions arise from truth or reaction, love or fear.
In this way, my life becomes a living ceremony. Every interaction, every choice, every silence—an opportunity to purify not by effort, but by presence.
And for those who’ve been on this journey with me for a while, you might be chuckling right now. Because, yes, this “gauge” is essentially the spiritual heart of the “GAUGE Your Life” method I’ve been sharing, just… well, gauged by a Mamo! Funny how these universal principles and practices circle back, isn’t it? Turns out, I was working within them to heal myself and help others long before I fully grasped the profound depth of their lineage.
What a Pure Heart Feels Like
Through these teachings and this path, I’ve come to understand that purity is not fragile; it’s fierce in its gentleness, stable in its surrender. It looks like:
- Sitting with someone’s pain without needing to fix it.
- Breathing through judgment to find compassion on the other side.
- Trusting in what can’t be seen, yet is felt in every heartbeat.
It’s allowing the fire of life to burn through what is false, and the waters of truth to soften what remains.
My Purpose in This Life
This isn’t just my story; it’s my purpose. I am here to embody the transmission of unconditional love and help others remember that their healing isn’t something they must earn—it is something they are.
Through the Enhancing Your World retreat center, the Gauge Your Life method, and the sacred commitments I hold with wisdom keepers like Mamo Lorenzo, I stand as a bridge. A mirror. A firekeeper.
Not perfect, but present.
Not finished, but willing.
Not seeking approval, but aligned with the Earth’s heartbeat.
What If We All Remembered?
What if we all remembered that purity isn’t about being untouched by the world, but about being deeply moved by it—and still choosing to love?
What if we allowed our hearts to be tested, not to prove worth, but to reveal essence?
What if we no longer chased the image of the sacred, but became the sacred, in the way we speak, hold, and walk?
