When the Fox Crossed the Old Stream: Remembering the Meaning of My Path
There are mornings when life feels as though it is speaking directly to us, not through words, doctrine, or the identities we have learned to wear, but through symbols, synchronicities, and the quiet knowing that something deeper has always been guiding our steps.
This morning was one of those moments.
For much of my life, I have walked a path I could not fully name. I did not begin with formal teachings or a clearly defined spiritual tradition.
I did not set out to become a healer, coach, minister, entrepreneur, or guide. I simply followed an inner current that continued to pull me toward truth, healing, and a deeper understanding of what it means to be human.
At times, this journey felt lonely. I often found myself too questioning for conventional systems, too intuitive for traditional business, too practical for some spiritual communities, and too spiritual for purely practical environments.
And yet each experience every hardship, relationship, success, setback, and surrender seemed to be preparing me for a life rooted not in a fixed identity, but in a way of being.
The Meaning of Albaugh: Dwelling Beside the Ancient Stream
As I reflected on my ancestry, I discovered that the surname Albaugh is believed to be connected to older Germanic roots, often associated with names such as Ahlbach or Albach.
The name can be understood through two symbolic elements: Ahl, meaning old, ancestral, or noble, and Bach, meaning brook, stream, or flowing water.
Together, Albaugh may be interpreted as one who dwells by the old stream, or one rooted in ancestral waters.
That meaning struck something deep within me. Water has always represented emotion, memory, purification, and the continual movement of life. A stream does not force its way forward. It adapts, yields, carves, nourishes, and continues.
Walking the Path Before Knowing Its Name
Looking back, I realize I was living many of the principles I now teach long before I had words for them. I was learning to observe without immediate judgment, trust intuition while remaining grounded, honor nature as teacher and mirror, transform adversity into wisdom, and serve others through authentic relationship.
I did not study these principles first and then apply them. I lived them often through mistakes, pain, surrender, and the release of identities I once believed defined me.
The Fox Appears
As I sat with these reflections, a fox ran across the yard. I’ve never seen one year after a decade of living here. It moved with grace and awareness, then stopped and looked directly at me.
For a brief moment, there was no separation between observer and observed. Only presence.
When I reached for my phone to capture the encounter, the fox disappeared.
And with that disappearance came the teaching: not everything sacred is meant to be captured. Some moments are given not to be possessed, but to be experienced.
